There are many ways to utilize e-mail marketing. For the most part, e-mail marketing can be broken down into two distinct categories:

UNTARGETED E-MAIL MARKETING
Untargeted e-mail marketing is also known as "UCE", "Unsolicited Bulk E-mail" and SPAM. And whether you do it yourself or hire one of the many e-mail marketing blasting companies online, it makes no difference, it's NOT a smart way to market.
"Spamming", or sending mass e-mail to "unqualified" e-mail addresses that do not want commercial e-mail, not only you risk the reputation of your easy home business, but you can get into more trouble than you would like.
Since many ISP's do not allow SPAM, they will discontinue your account as soon as they receive a SPAM complaint, they won't even check if it's true or not.
If you want to promote your easy home business without risk, you should consider one of the following e-mail marketing alternatives:
* Targeted e-mail marketing * "Opt In" lists * E-mail discussion groups
TARGETED E-MAIL MARKETING
You can say that you are using targeted e-mail marketing, when you send your e-mail to recipients that have expressed their will to receive it.
With targeted e-mail marketing not only you do get better results, but you won't have to worry about ISP cancellation and more best of all, you won't damage your easy home business reputation.
"OPT IN" LISTS
They are lists of people who have accepted to receive e-mail marketing campaigns about certain topic (just about any imaginable topic)
This method is not only the cheapest form of e-mail marketing, but it works!

E-MAIL DISCUSSION GROUPS
There are thousands of topics of e-mail discussion groups where you can not only read the news that are posted, but you are allowed to voice your opinion, usually through a moderator.
In a discussion list you can even ask for help from others with similar interests. And of course you are welcome to assist people in need.
As soon as you write about the topic of the group, your signature file (the footer you include at the end of every e-mail message you send) can invite readers to your site. So signature files are the marketing means at e-mail discussion groups.
The e-mail discussion groups go to a very targeted audience, and that's why they are a very good e-mail marketing method. But you must make sure that you only write bout the topic of the group, or you will receive hundreds of angry letters from its members. And if the group offers it, you should also consider advertising in it.
It doesn't matter what you are marketing online, participating in discussion groups makes sense, only if you are really interested in the group's topic, because you can't just join a group and post an e-mail expecting to have great results. You will receive more results, people will believe you more, if you are a known member of the group.
